Among different forms of making money online (MMO) by website, using Affiliate Marketing and Google AdSense are the most popular ones. It depends on your ability, knowledge, and experience to choose and develop a suitable way(s).
Should you choose Affiliate Marketing or Google Adsense? Which one is better?
Let’s accompany me through this article to get to understand the fundamental and necessary knowledge about these two methods to choose the proper one for yourself.
- A. Website Monetization with Affiliate Marketing vs with Google Adsense?
- B. Compare Affiliate Marketing and Google Adsense
- C. Choosing Affiliate Marketing or Google Adsense to make money online?
A. Website Monetization with Affiliate Marketing vs with Google Adsense?
1. What is Google Adsense?
Google Adsense is the largest online advertising service developed by Google. Google Adsense places ads (text banners, images) on your website (video) and pays you each time a user clicks on the ad.
You can register to receive Google Adsense ads on your website/blog. However, only the website with enough conditions can get approval from Google Adsense.
You can simply understand this as Google will pay you to buy some areas on your website/blog. It will then places ads at those locations. The amount you earn more or less, it all depends on the number of click to Google Ads coming from readers on your website.
For example, you have a blog/website with 100,000 visitors per month.
- You have 100,000 ads view.
- You have CTR (Click-through Rate) of 1%. 100,000x 1% = 1,000
- If CPC (Cost Per Click) is $0.01, then you get $10/month.
- If CPC is $1.00, you get $1,000$/month.
2. What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate Marketing is a way to make money online by promoting the products and services of others to introduce customers to buy products or services. Depending on the affiliate marketing policy, you will receive a commission every time a visitor goes to the sales website via your referral link to buy products or services.
How to make money from Affiliate Marketing with your website/blog?
You can place product advertising banners or insert product marketing links on your website/blog posts. If a customer clicks on your link and performs a certain action such as buying goods, registering information, etc., you will receive a commission from the products/services suppliers.
Currently, Affiliate Marketing is growing strongly worldwide. You do not need to have products, no customer care, no need to deliver products to customers. Your only job is to promote products to receive commissions.
B. Compare Affiliate Marketing and Google Adsense
1. Control advertisement content
When making money from Google Adsense, Google will place ads on your website but will not allow you to choose the ad content to display. All ads are under Google’s management. Ads by Google Adsense will often display according to users’ interest or their access history (retargeting ads).
For that reason, you cannot control the advertising content or which product/brand will be advertised on your website. As a result, you cannot decide on the type of product that will reach each specific audience through your website. Readers may feel uncomfortable by some ads that they don’t care about but still catch their eyes when reading.
For example, your blog is about Making Money Online but advertising can completely display products about shoes, phones, cameras, even viagra … which generally has nothing related to the blog.
Affiliate Marketing is different. Which products advertising on your website/blog is your decision. In the same field, there will be a lot of products from different affiliate programs for you to promote. You absolutely do not have to depend on only one program.
For example: if your website specializes in introducing black garlic and products related to black garlic, marketing the products such as black garlic, black garlic machine will be very effective. You can write an article to introduce or review the black garlic machine to encourage readers to buy and use it. Besides, there are many attractive affiliate marketing network/program for you to choose from.
Therefore, even with limited traffic, you can still create many successful purchase orders. You are completely proactive in creating sales pages with appropriate content, banners to attract customers to click and buy products instead of passively receiving ads from Google.
2. Register conditions
If you are a newbie, signing up for Google Adsense content is quite difficult.
The terms and policies of Google Adsense are extremely strict, which is why many people give up Google Adsense, even give up the dream of making money online. In order to sign up for AdSense, you need to own a website with content that is useful to users and ensures that it meets all other the requirements of Google.
To do this, with someone who just gets to start MMO, is not easy. Even, even if you already have an AdSense account, you cannot know when Google will delete it (in case you violate Google Adsense policies).
Your AdSense account is still owned by Google, so Google can close it at any time, without any hint before, if you violate the terms. Sometimes, you may don’t have any clue about how and why it happens to you. This can be explained by the unfair-play in this field, which is quite common. Some of the competitors can even write tools to auto-click on ads on your website, making Google mistakenly think you are deliberately clicking on your own ads to receive money.
Once Google Adsense account is closed, never should you dream of being able to register again, because according to Google regulations, each person can only register to use one Google Adsense account in one time. That is, if a person is locked into a Google Adsense account, it will never be re-registered, unless using other people’s information, meaning pretending to be another person, possibly your lover or a friend, a relative.
You’d better develop a sustainable website before thinking about making money with Google Adsense.
Another way to make money is Affiliate Marketing in which there is not as much unfair-play as in Google Adsense. And with Affiliate, there are countless marketing networks or programs for you to choose.
Signing up for Affiliate Network is easier than signing up for a Google Adsense account. It is likely no difficulty in getting the approval of account and website content like AdSense.
3. From Google Adsense or Affiliate Marketing that we can earn more money?
I will just count in case that you’ve already got content approval from Google Adsense content nhé (not count earning form Youtube also).
Google Adsense or Affiliate Marketing – from which one we can earn more money?
There is no correct answer to this question, because some people are better in making money with Google Adsense, earning less from Affiliate, but many people are opposite different.
Make money with Google Adsense appeared quite early and many of you will often start with it.
Google Adsense can ensure stable income.
There are 2 kinds of payment method from Adsense:
- CPM: cost per mile (cost for every 1,000 of impressions of the ads).
- CPC: cost per click to ads.
On average, to earn a minimum of $2/day, your website needs at least 2-3k views per day.
However, if your website is aimed at the European and American markets with high CPC prices, sometimes up to several USD per click (depending on the products’ field), Google Adsense earning is quite attractive.
Did you know Mashable.com has a turnover of over $700,000/month only from to Google Adsense, not counting revenue from other media support campaigns?
In general, with strict rules, your income will be dependent on Google.
For Affiliate Marketing, it is different: even if your website has low traffic but it aims at the right topic, directing the right audience, your income will still be high.
For example, if you market a product with a price of $100 and a commission rate of 30%, with 100 people accessing the website and 5 of them clicking the link to buy the product, your income will be not a small amount.
Do you know who he is? Pat Flynn and his team pocketed more than $145,000 in October 2017 with the Smart Passive Income blog, a blog that guides individuals and businesses to maximize passive income. Super terrible!
You can view the Income Reports details of his blog here.
Where does the biggest income from Pat Flynn’s blog come from?
Nearly 80% of the money Pat Flynn earns is brought from Affiliate Marketing activities. With affiliate marketing, you can know exactly how much you have earned on each sale. Unlike AdSense, each ad can vary from $0.05-5/click depending on Google’s rating.
You can receive payment from Google Adsense via Google by three ways:
- WU Western Union: The most popular form worldwide which allows you to receive AdSense payments in cash by using its money transfer services.
- WT Wire Transfer: for payments above $4,000, the WT method is required. For those who reach the minimum payment limit of $100 should use Western Union which is more simply and quickly.
- Check: If you have enough $10, you will start to be issued a PIN to verify your account and reach the minimum payment threshold of $100, you can withdraw money through the forms that Google Adsense supports.
With Affiliate, the two most common payment methods are via PayPal or Payoneer card.
AdSense is managed by Google while the Affiliate market is invested by many different large and small companies, bringing competition, benefits and support to participants.
C. Choosing Affiliate Marketing or Google Adsense to make money online?
Above, I have made some comparisons between these two types of MMO. Which form to choose is your own decision.
I will give you some advice on when to use Google Adsense, when to follow Affiliate Marketing, or a combination of both.
Google Adsense is suitable for blog/website in the field of news and entertainment, because it often attracts a big load of visitors, large traffic volume.
With Google Adsense, the more visitors you have, the more clicks you have on the displayed ad, and the more money you will get.
How about Affiliate Marketing?
The first reason Affiliate Marketing convinces people compared to Google AdSense is that your website does not need huge traffic. With only a few thousand visitors to the website regularly, you can still generate a high income from Affiliate Marketing.
If you are good or have knowledge of a certain field/topic, you should build a website/blog with that one. These websites/blogs often attract less traffic than news and entertainment ones, so making money with Google Adsense is not potential.
If you build website/blog in certain fields (Authority Site, Niche Site) and it has stable traffic, you should choose Affiliate Marking. Though you can still make money with Google Adsense, I think Affiliate will be more potential with a better income. The traffic number is small but there are specific features for which readers come to your blog because of the need for “knowledge” they are looking for, not entertainment needs, and you can absolutely rely on their needs to make money. Readers can read your article, trust what you recommend to serve their needs in the field they are learning.
You can absolutely get a great commission if you choose products carefully. You not only bring value to your readers by introducing them to the right products that you also earn in the process. So isn’t the win-win?
For example, your blog is a travel one. People come to your blog are about to travel. They are searching where to go or where they intend to go, so you can sign up Affiliate Maketing for hotels, or book airline tickets, tours, etc.
Or your blog is in the field of sharing experience in creating a website and tips for WordPress, you can absolutely make affiliate for providers of hosting, domain, interfaces or paid plugins, etc. You can also see blogs which build personal branding with quality content will never put Google Adsense on. Most of them do affiliate or sell products, services of individuals, PR for their brands, …
In addition to blogging, websites, Affiliate Marketing has a lot of strategies for participants to make money through such as Email Marketing, running Google ads, Facebook Ads, etc. Obviously, Affiliate Marketing gives a variety of directions for you to choose and run compared to Google Adsense.
In general, either Google Adsense or Affiliate Marketing is all forms of credible and sustainable online money you can choose when trying MMO.
I cannot give an absolute answer that new people should choose Google Adsense or Affiliate Marketing. Good work or not, know how to optimize revenue or not is decided by you, not by GA or AM.
The two methods all have their advantages and disadvantages. If you can combine both, it will be a smart choice.
Wish you guys luck and success!
